The purpose of the sessions there are: to feel more comfortable with me and my camera. To learn 3 simple poses, to make the portrait sessions fun and quick so that you can get back to enjoying your wedding day!

Are bluebell woods the perfect location for enagement photography?
I was recently walking my dogs across the fields and my mind begain to wander, as it often does, to taking photographs. Spring has arrived and as nature takes hold. Birds sing and flowers bloom as I edge closer to the woods. As I enter I notice a blue carpet has been laid on the woodland floor.
Of course, we have entered May and the magical moment when bluebells open has arrived. Almost overnight, they weren't here last week, a carpet of deep violet-blue can been seen across the floor of the woods. It is simply a scene of beauty as the sunlight shines through the gaps in the trees and illuminates the flowers below. I hope you'cve stood in a bluebell wood and felt the whimisal magic it eludes when in full bloom. What a beautiful location for a photography engagement session.
Why Bluebell Woods Make a Perfect Backdrop for Engagement Photos
Bluebells are beautiful flowers that appear each year in the UK in early spring - between late April and early May. Adding a blue hue to woods and forest floors across the British Isles. Bluebells bloom for only a few fleeting weeks each spring, therefore making engagment portraits a limited time opportunity. Therefore I felt blessed tyo have two sessions arranged. Hopefully, the blue carpet would still be present for the sessions to create beautiful photos for the couples whose weddings I would soon be photographing.
photos are stunning. That sea of blue-violet creates a natural colour palette that flatters almost every skin tone, outfit, and couple. The dappled light filtering through fresh spring leaves softens everything it touches. And the woodland setting adds depth, texture, and a sense of story to every frame — there's something inherently romantic about two people finding each other in an enchanted forest.
Bluebells present a short window of opportunity!
Bluebells appear for a very short period of time, lasting only 3 or 4 weeks during April and May. It is essential to know when the bluebells first appear in order to book in your enagaement session. It is vital that we keep in touch at this time in order to book a session at short notice. A good woodland photographer will monitor local bluebell patches closely and advise you when the full bloom is expected. Don't worry, I can do this - I have bluebells planted in my kitchen garden!
Missing the window by even a week can mean the difference between a carpet of vibrant colour and a bed of wilting stems, so flexibility in your schedule pays off enormously here. If you can hold a date loosely and confirm closer to the time, do.
Golden hours are spectacular!
As with any wedding day, golden hours are especially magical. You know, the time when the sun delivers a warm glow, when the reflections in windows make them look like they're made of gold.
It's the warm glow as the sun rises, between 07:00-09:00 hours.. Alternatively, the time in the evening before the sunsets and a golden light covers the ground. In the bluebell woood this allows the golden light to peep through the trees and contrast the blue carpet of flowers. Allowing your photos to become soft, flattering and beautiful.
Preparing for your engagment photography session
The bluebell wood does a lot of the styling work for you, but a few simple choices will make a big difference.
What colours should I wear?
For the bride-to-be, soft whites and pale yellows or creams, blush pinks, sage greens, and warm terracotta clothes will all look gorgeous against the backdrop of greenery and the blue-violet of the flowers.
For the groom, I recommend mid-to-dark colours, deep navy, mid-to-dark grey or browns.
What colours should I avoid wearing?
Very bright, saturated colours and large, patterned clothing will clash with your surroundings — particularly colours such as electric blue, neon, vivid orange — will clash with the neutural palette of the woodlad. Clothing with bold patterns or prints will also distract from serene background of nature.
Comfort matters
Just as on your wedding day, changing into comfortable footwear is a must. There is likely to be walk to your location. You will walking across fields and paths be walking through woodland and across uneven ground. There are also a few brambles and loose brambles to negotiate. So save your high-heels for the wedding day. Wear your comfy shoes/trainers or boots. It's unlikely your footwear will be seen in the photos anyway.
Keep warm using layers
The weather can still be cool at this time of year. Spring time in woodlands can be quite chilly, especially in the morning. Bring an extra layer to keep warm. Just as on your wedding day you can remove it for the photos.
What to expect during your Connection Session
Our bluebell woodland engagement session typically lasts between 60 and 90 minutes, including time walking to the best bluebell locations. Don't worry, I know the perfect places to take you.
As we walk over we will stop at a couple of places for photos too. This will make you feel more relaxed on the way. There'll be plenty of time to chat toom about your wedding day plans. I'll have plenty of questions too. Posing in front of the cameras can feel awkward at first but we'll keep things relaxed. You'll soon feel at ease. During the session, some photos will capture you both relaxing and being yourselves as you have a little stroll. But I'll also show you three simple poses that will look great on your wedding day.
