Making a Picure - mum's wedding game

As a documentary wedding photographer, I aim to capture authentic moments on your wedding day. As an experienced wedding photographer, I often watch people from different backgrounds. There are times when interactions and emotions will naturally occur, for example, during a confetti tunnel or after the ceremony when the guests receive the newly married bride. During these times, as a photographer, I look to take photos from different angles, using both wide and telephone lenses for different story-telling scenarios. Looking for candid moments at such times, I concentrate on expressions, physical holds, attire, and the age of the person with whom the bride or groom is embracing or making eye contact.

My style as a reportage photographer is as a guest. Often, after the couple's gallery is delivered, they are surprised by the photos, not realising that I am there at the moment, candidly documenting the event as someone who simply appears to be a guest—with a camera.

This can be a little tricky with young children. Many brides and grooms want amazing photos of their children on their wedding day. When 'Making the Picture - a game with mum', the little boy was feeling overwhelmed by the occasion. During this time, we knew trying to include him in a photo with Mum would not work. I suggested playing a game with the little boy and his mum. I met the young boy during a pre-wedding shoot with the bride and groom. This made the session easier. For the game, I explained what I thought would work and where I could position myself. The result was excellent and showed the genuine interaction between mum and son on her wedding day.
