My favourite wedding photograph - 001

This is a favourite photograph from my recent wedding at the wonderful Whirlowbrook Hall in Sheffield. As a Yorkshire documentary wedding photographer, I love this photo.

My day begins early. When I arrive, I often have my drone in the air and take aerial photos of the wedding venue. The start of the day is often more relaxed. Starting with the bridal prep, I introduce myself and look for details. As the day progresses, I look for more creative content. After taking photos of the scene, I allow myself time to scan and watch. During the wedding speeches, I watched as a father was busy entertaining his very young daughter. Below is a typical shot during this time.

But this particular photo stands out because it shows the game the father and daughter were playing as part of the scene. The moment is perfect. The photo is not a close-up photograph of expressions, glee and laughter as the two engage in the game. It is a photo that many people (hopefully the couple whilst looking through their wedding gallery) may simply look over and miss the key part. Upon inspection, one can see that the toddler is, for a brief moment, just another person in the room listening intently to the speeches. It contains humour, the composition tells a different story from the one above, and the context is subtle. You may not notice it on first viewing, but once noticed, it certainly becomes an important photograph.
